Why the Federal Government doesn't want schools to be re-opened...

Why has the government eased the lockdown period, opened all churches and businesses with the exception of schools?

What do you think is the reason for this decision?

Some may say school may be the easiest means of spread of the virus because students mingle a lot with each other and may not pay too much attention to the preventive measures. But it’s the same for the market, why did the Government open the markets when markets are actually the easiest means of spread. Didn’t they think of that too?
Then again it was stated that Older Adults were more prone to contracting the Virus, now Businesses and Market places are opened, more people are prone to contract it than during the lockdown period. Where as in schools, younger people operate there the most. Another reason to ponder on….
Adamu had said while addressing the State House of correspondents after the Virtual Federal Executive council meeting on Wednesday July 8, 2020, said that none of the Schools under the control of the ministry will resume until schools are considered safe enough.

Why has Government not re-opened Secondary schools?

As for Secondary schools, Students in exam classes have resumed to take their exams. This resumption was granted on basis of Improved Health measures to avoid spread of Covid-19 in Schools. The Students should have the necessary equipment to prevent themselves from the Virus. The School is to also be in charge of preventing outsiders contact with the students and provide screening facilities to check students and ensure they do not have the Virus.
With these measures in place, Students in exam classes have resumed. I also think that soon secondary schools and Primary schools will be completely re-opened if they all would obey and carry out the instructions given for Re-opening of schools.

Why has Universities not re-opened?
As for the tertiary institutions, inasmuch as the Government has not announced resumption date, when they finally do, Tertiary institutions may not be re-opened. This is because of the ASUU strike. This strike started before the Lockdown and hasn’t been resolved. I think it’s going to be a major reason Tertiary institutions will not be re-opened anytime soon.
