Myths About Hair Growth You Thought Were True. Why is my hair not growing?

Ever wandered why your hair has no improvement despite practicing all the hair growth tips you’ve ever seen?
I’ve come with an answer to that question. The next time you hear or read anything like these, don’t expect too much from it.
I’ll share some hair myths which people have believed to be true…
• HAIR REMEDIES THAT GROW HAIR: Use this and your hair grows in 1week, 2days or whatever period of time. This is the most popular one. They will actually use all kinds of adverts to prove the authenticity of their product or remedy. It seems real but it isn’t.
Now let me tell you this.
Hair grows at half inch per month on the average, this is six inches per year. This is the natural growth rate. Your genetics is the only factor responsible for increased or decreased growth rate. Your hair keeps growing everyday as you live.
For your hair to grow, it needs to retain length it has gotten. Nothing increases growth rate but something does help in retaining length. When your hair is unable to retain the length that’s when you lose length and it appears to have stopped growing.

The hair remedies may only make the hair gain strength to prevent it from breaking off in loss of length but doesn’t increase the growing rate. When your hair doesn’t cut much you get the illusion that it’s growing longer than it used to. This illusion is what the advertisers want to achieve.

The next time someone advises you to buy a hair product because it increases hair length remember that it’s just a trick to get people into using their product.
• SHEABUTTER OR OIL MAKES THE HAIR LONGER: What do you think these two does to your hair?
Do you also think Sheabutter and Oils grow hair ?
Obviously they don’t. They only give shiny look and smooth feel but doesn’t grow hair longer.

Sheabutter and Oil act as clothing for the hair. Sheabutter prevent the hair shaft from loss of moisture making it soft while Oils makes it shiny and attractive.

They do not have any contribution to hair growth.
In the long run, Sheabutter is not good for the hair because the weaker the hair is as a result of too much moisture retention, it can break off easily.
• RELAXER CUTS HAIR: I often hear people say this.
Does relaxer really cut hair?

I also used to believe this before I discovered this truth. Relaxer doesn’t cut hair, it weakens it. When you relax your hair, you actually break down the strength if the hair making it weaker and more prone to cut easily. It seems like I’m contradicting my previous statement but I’m not. Your hair will only break easily when you mishandle it which can be easily prevented.

If you really want to grow relaxed hair, you can grow it to your desired length. This myth shouldn’t instill fear and cause you to grow a hair type you do not like.

• DANDRUFF GROWS THE HAIR LONGER: I think this is the funniest.
What is dandruff?
It is a hair infection responsible for white patches on the hair scalp. When the scalp isn’t exposed, the white patches is formed on the hair roots. If you have seen a dandruff infested hair, you would know it looks really irritating.
Then tell me how something like that is good for your hair.

What causes dandruff?
Poorly aerated and dirty hair is responsible for dandruff. Okay…
Poorly aerated hair results from densely packed hair. Some people have this type of hair where it isn’t easy for air to get to the roots. This results in dandruff if not washed regularly.

Does dandruff make hair longer?
Since dandruff is a hair infection, it is disastrous to your hair and can never make them grow longer. If you doubt this, try washing a dandruff infested hair after a long time. Before washing, it might seem like you’ve gained a lot of growth but when you start washing you’ll realize that you lose more hair when trying to wash off the dandruff.
The next time you do not want to wash your hair because a friend has said that it grows hair, note that you will lose all the hair grown when washing it.
